Both rigid and flexible bronchoscopes are used in this case. In daily routine, flexible brochoscopy is gaining importance over rigid brochoscopy. Many jobs so far carried out with rigid bronchoscopes can be performed quicker and more gently for the patient using flexible brochoscopes. They allow deeper examination and are less traumatic.

• Diagnosis of diseases of the respiratory tract
• Taking of biopsies
• Therapeutic interventions
• Bronchial lavage (irrigation treatment of the bronchi)
• Removal of foreign-bodies

Flexible bronchoscopes with fiber image guides are available in outside diameters of 2.5 and 5 mm and in working lengths of 600 mm and 700 mm. The instruments have working channels of 1.2 mm and 2.5 mm.

The new flexible Wolf Video Brochoscopes use the so-called "chip-on-the-tip" technology. Instead of the fiber image guide, a distal video image sensor is used to image the scene. This results in clearly enhanced image quality (e.g. higher resolution, no pixel structure, no moiré effect). As in flexible bronchoscopy surgeons work almost exclusively with the monitor, this technology can do without an eyepiece. The bronchoscope is therefore lighter and easier to handle. There are video bronchoscopes with outside diameters of 5.3 mm and 6.0 mm, equipped with working channels of 2.0 mm and 2.2 mm. The working length is 600 mm. A single cable which is firmly attached transmits both the light for object illumination and the video signal.

Rigid bronchoscopes for cats and small dogs have diameters of 2.05 mm, 2.7 mm, 3.4 mm and are available in working lengths of 185 mm, 304 mm, 310 mm and 380 mm. The product range is rounded off by rigid bronchoscopes for larger dogs, with diameters of 4.0 and 5.5 mm and working lengths of 490 mm and 526 mm.
